A free summer concert series featuring Texas musicians debuts July 10 at The Bullock Texas State History Museum.

Fun Fun Fun Fest and the Bullock Museum have collaborated to present ‘Music Under the Star: Celebrating Texas Music and Ten Years of Fun Fun Fun Fest’ for three consecutive Fridays in July. The series begins 6 p.m. July 10 in the museum’s Lone Star Plaza featuring a three-hour show from local bands Brownout and Sweet Spirit. The next week includes performances from Ben Kweller and East Cameron Folkcore, and the series concludes July 24 with The Octopus Project and Golden Dawn Arkestra.

For eight years now, the Bullock Museum has hosted free summer concerts during July. The museum hosts the free concerts to celebrate Texas culture and emphasize the ongoing story of Texas through new and innovative voices, according to Bullock officials.

Similarly, FFF Fest has hosted up-and-coming bands for 10 years now. Because of this, the Bullock Museum decided to collaborate with FFF Fest officials to showcase Texas music and engage the local community. FFF Fest is an annual music festival that typically books musicians from throughout the world.

“Fun Fun Fun Fest is different than other festivals from the front door to the back door,” said Ian Orth, the creative events manager for FFF fest. “We try to project and create an air of community, family, and creativity.”

Founded in 2006, FFF Fest started out as a one-day festival with a small audience. Now, the festival features a three-day concert, four stages and more than 30,000 attendees. However, even though FFF has experienced such drastic growth, festival organizers still aim to have the event be original and relaxed.

“Fun Fun Fun Fest is all about turning people on to what Austin is,” Orth said. “Fun Fun Fun is Austin.”
