Toyota Motor North America unveiled its new architectural plans for its future headquarters campus at Legacy West on Wednesday. Designed by Corgan Associates, the 2.1 million-square-foot campus will include seven buildings arranged around a large central plaza that will offer team members everything from dining options and a fitness center to banking options, a pharmacy and conference center.

“Team members will love the onsite amenities,” said Jim Lentz, Toyota North American Region CEO. “We designed the campus for maximum flexibility. We’re proud of this campus, as it reflects our company’s mission as well and those of our neighbors.”

In addition to its amenities, the environmentally sustainable campus will be strategically positioned to maximize the sun, Lentz said. The buildings will also feature energy efficient glass to increase its dependence on natural light. Parking garages and office buildings will be equipped with solar panels for renewable energy as well.

In doing so, the company strives to achieve a LEED Platinum certification for the campus, the highest level of certification possible by the U.S. Green Building Council.

“This is going to be a cutting-edge facility [that] demonstrates the company’s commitment and responsibility to the environment,” Mayor Harry LaRosiliere said. “In Plano, we’re starting our spirit of innovation to improve the quality of life, so this is the ideal environment for Toyota. It all starts here in Plano.”

The event also marked the launch of Toyota’s Ever-Better Expedition. The convoy of Toyota vehicles departed the Plano campus, marking the beginning of a 110-day trip across the United States and Canada that will allow engineers and team members to experience vehicle performance and connect with customers while gathering insight for the design of future vehicles.

“We couldn’t think of a better place to kick off [this] expedition than right here in Texas at the future site of our campus,” Lentz said. “This global driving project will help us understand how customers use their vehicles on various road conditions that they face. This is another demonstration of our service commitment and continuous improvement.”

Toyota broke ground at Legacy West in January, with construction expected to be complete in 2017. Legacy West is a 240-acre, $2 billion mixed-used development located at the intersection of SH 121, the Dallas North Tollway and Headquarters Drive. When complete, the development will also house corporate offices for FedEx Office and Print Services and Liberty Mutual, in addition to retail shops and housing.
