After one year at the Cedar Park Center, the Austin Aces professional tennis team will move to Central Austin for its 2015 season.
The Aces will relocate to Gregory Gymnasium on The University of Texas campus for its Mylan World TeamTennis regular season matches, which take place July 14-29.
“From feedback we received and the analysis that was done by our front office, we felt that a relocation to a venue located closer to the center center would be in our team’s best interest,” Aces owner Lorne Abony said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have been able to find a downtown home … as the Aces work to become Austin’s premier professional sports brand and the must-attend sporting event each summer.”
Gregory Gymnasium is also home to UT’s volleyball team. The gym’s tennis configuration will seat 3,500 spectators, according to the organization. That includes space for VIP tables, court-side seating, reserved chair-back seating and general admission bleachers.
Austin resident and longtime pro Andy Roddick is expected to return to the Aces for a second season. Nine-time Grand Slam doubles winner Rick Leach will coach the team this season.
