An extensive process to rename a 30,000-square-foot BMX and skateboard park in Central Austin could come to a conclusion Aug. 28.
If approved by at least five members of City Council at its Aug. 28 meeting, the park will be renamed Heath Eiland Morgan Moss BMX Skatepark, said Gregory Montes, park development coordinator with the city of Austin Parks and Recreation Department.
A proposal to rename the facility, open to the public since 2011, came to the city earlier this year from the Moss family, Montes said. Through a public input process, an additional name proposal emerged from the Eiland family. Both families wish to pay respects to deceased boys Heath Eiland and Morgan Moss, Montes said.
The Parks and Recreation Board proposed naming the park after both boys—pending council approval.
