Work to extend Meadowcroft Boulevard in Sugar Land began in early April after a $1.5 million contract with Conrad Construction was approved by City Council. The street is a connector to University Boulevard in Telfair, and once completed, it will connect residents with First Colony Boulevard to the east.
"There has not been a lot of connectivity over Ditch H, which has added congestion to Hwy. 6 and Hwy. 90," City Engineer Chris Steubing said. "With the addition of the Lexington and Meadowcroft extensions, there is more east-to-west movement. We are hoping to see a better distribution of traffic."
Meadowcroft Boulevard is being extended as a four-lane divided road from First Colony Boulevard over Ditch H—an important piece of drainage infrastructure in the city.
The bridge crossing Ditch H is being built as a partnership between Municipal Utility District 128 and the city of Sugar Land. Each entity plans to pay 50 percent of construction and design costs.
