Multiple neighborhoods Tempo, a program that is part of the city's Art in Public Places program and helps attract emerging artists to the city's public art program, is helping to bring unique, temporary art installations to Austin parks and the public.

Anna Bradley, Art in Public Places coordinator, said the program allows the public to be exposed to art without a large financial or time commitment.

"They get to experience this piece that has a finite amount of time on display, which I always think creates a special moment in time. It creates that visceral memory of 'Remember when that was, remember when we had that experience?'" Bradley said. "And it gives the general public an opportunity to be exposed to studio or fine artists that wouldn't necessarily have had an opportunity to exhibit on more of a public level."

Artists, along with the public, also gain valuable experience about the public art application process through the Tempo program, Bradley said.

The first four of 11 works going on display include:

  • "Festoon" by Jessica Braun at Plaza Saltillo, 412 Comal St. Nov. 9, 2013–April 4, 2014
  • "Window Walk" by John Mark Luke at Riata Park, 12401 Riata Trace. Nov. 14, 2013–May 2, 2014
  • "Space Camp" by Mason Leland Moore and Joel Nolan at the Boggy Creek Greenbelt, 1114 Nile St. Nov. 9–Dec. 8
  • "Below" by Jacob Villanueva and Jeff Clarke at Boggy Creek Greenbelt, 1114 Nile St. Nov. 16–29
