Residents are working to prevent a traditional 7-Eleven gas station from being built at the intersection of 50th Street and Harmon Avenue.
Ridgetop Neighborhood Association President Penelope Doherty said building a traditional 7-Eleven, which fits current zoning, at the intersection is not in the best interest of the neighborhood or city.
"We understand that our neighborhood will be in high demand [for development]," Doherty said. "But we really want to have confidence that our city leadership is making sure that it's appropriate development ... that will increase our quality of life, not decrease it."
Doherty said neighborhood residents are concerned the proposed 7-Eleven does not have have entrances or exits facing major roads—51st Street and the I-35 access road—meaning traffic would likely be sent through the neighborhood. The 7-Eleven, which would have a gas station, would also cause light pollution, Doherty said.
Ridgetop residents have proposed building a more upscale, pedestrian-oriented 7-Eleven without gas pumps. The vision is detailed at
