A temporary burn ban was implemented July 10 in all city of Austin parks, greenbelts and preserves.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department burn ban, which is effective immediately, includes the prohibition of smoking, open fires and grilling. Violations of the burn ban may result in a fine between $300–$500.

"The temporary ban is necessary to ensure the safety of park patrons, surrounding communities and in an effort to minimize the risk of a wildfire in the department's parks and greenbelts," says a news release from the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. "The department will continue to evaluate the fire hazard conditions and will lift the ban as soon as conditions will allow."
