In the 19th and early 20th century, The Chicago House served as a downtown hotel and boarding house at the intersection of Sixth and Trinity Streets.

Now, more than 100 years later, the same space and name have been revitalized by ATX Brands as a craft beer bar. Serving 20 craft beers on rotating taps, ATX Brands CEO Doug Guller said The Chicago House, which opened Jan. 24, is bringing something new to the heart of Sixth Street in a historic space.

"[The area] doesn't have a place that really focuses on craft ales or American craft ales or the beer enthusiasts," Guller said. "It's just a really cool, unique place that I feel that the area needs."

The Chicago House serves both local and national craft beers, has two cask beers and a menu with Chicago Vienna beef hot dogs. Guller said he will be reaching out to smaller breweries throughout the nation to carry beers that are not found in many other places in Austin.

The Chicago House's website has a live feed of the beers being offered each day.

Guller said he is excited for The Chicago House to help continue changing the identity of the Sixth Street area between Congress Avenue and I-35.

"There are several places that have begun to change east of Congress, and I think this is going to be a great one to add to the mix," he said.
