The final four design finalists will present their plans Oct. 3 at City Hall, 301 W. Second St., in front of the five-person jury for the Waller Creek development project.
Presentations will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the first presenter, CMG and Public Architecture. At 10:30 a.m., Workshop: Ken Smith Landscape Architect, Ten Eyck Landscape Architects and Rogers Marvel Architects will present their design. Michael Van Valkenburg Associates and Thomas Phifer and Partners will present at 1 p.m., and Turenscape and Lake|Flato Architects will present at 3 p.m.
"I think this is an opportunity for each team to tell the jury how their design answers the design principals that we put forth in our invitation," said Melba Whatley, president and co-founder of the Waller Creek Conservancy. "The jury will have a chance to drill down into areas that might be of particular interest or particular concern. Every landscape architect has to sell their [design], and this is their opportunity to do that."
The public is invited to the presentation, but visitors are not allowed to comment. On Oct. 12, the jury will make a recommendation for the winning design team, and the Austin City Council is expected to endorse the recommendation Oct. 18 at its regular meeting.
The project incorporates a 1.5-mile stretch of Waller Creek that includes about 28 acres downtown. The four finalists were announced in April from 31 applicants, and the designs were on display at various locations throughout the city from Sept. 17-30 where public comments were collected.
