Overview
The heart of Clarksville is at the corner of 12th and West Lynn streets. Clarksville was founded after the Civil War and it is one the oldest surviving freedom towns in the country. Many of the descendants of the original families still reside in the neighborhood.
Much of the historic atmosphere still exists in the neighborhood, which also includes a local grocery store, pharmacy and nursery. There are also four locally owned restaurants in the area: Zocalo, Galaxy Cafe, Cipollina and Jeffrey's. Jeffrey's has changed ownership and will reopen later this year.
Local coffee shop Caffe Medici opened in 2006, and has become a haven for many working local residents, government employees and college students.
Because of Clarksville's age, there are a wide variety of styles of homes. The neighborhood features small bungalows, estate-style homes that date back to the 1870s and several architectural styles. In addition, Clarksville has a number of condominium communities and apartment complexes. The number of homes and condos in this area makes it one of the most dense communities in Austin.
Homes in Clarksville do not change hands often. If priced correctly in this market, homes typically sell within 30 days.
