With all 39 precincts reporting in the race for Texas House District 3, Cecil Bell Jr. has clinched a victory, earning 56.88 percent of the votes.
Bell was trailed by Bob Bagley, who won 26.35 percent, and Troy Bonin, who won 16.75 percent. There were 12,723 total voters who cast ballots in this election. Results at this stage in the ballot counting process are unofficial.
"It's always humbling to know that people place that much confidence in you," Bell said. "We have a new house district and we want to send a strong conservative with a business background and proven community leadership to be our voice. I'm ready to go to work."
Through his campaign, Bell's top issues have included addressing the shortfalls of the state budget, simplifying funding structures when it comes to public education, and water rights.
"I appreciate all the support I've gotten through the whole process," he said. "My job is now to go make sure that support and trust was rightly placed."
Bell, who lives in Magnolia, serves as the president of the Magnolia ISD board of trustees, director for the Texas Association of Business and the CEO of his own business, B-5 Construction.
Texas House District 3 was created during the redistricting process due to population growth in the area. District 3 is composed of parts of Montgomery and Waller counties.
Update 8:20 p.m.
Early voting results show Cecil Bell Jr. of Magnolia leading the race for Texas House District 3 with 57.8 percent of the votes, a total of 2,988 votes.
Bob Bagley of Grangerland follows Bell with 26.9 percent and Troy Bonin of Magnolia has 15.3 percent.
Results for election day voting have not been reported.
