Council members are set to take up several issues May 24, including the proposed sale of the former Greenwater Treatment Plant site, economic incentives offered by the City of Austin, short-term rentals, recommendations of the 2012 Charter Revision Committee and the Imagine Austin plan.

Among the items of interest on the agenda include:

Green Water Treatment Plant site sale

  • Item 12: Possible vote on the $42.4 million sale of the former Green Water Treatment site to Trammell Crow Co. for a planned $500 million redevelopment. The site includes 4.4 acres of land bounded by West Third Street, Cesar Chavez Street, Shoal Creek and San Antonio Street.

Economic incentives

  • Item 92: Creating a Council Special Committee on Economic Incentives —made up of council members Mike Martinez, Laura Morrison and Kathie Tovo—to hold public meetings and investigate possible uniform contract terms for economic development proposals.

Short-term rentals

  • Item 140: Conduct a public hearing regarding the short-term rental of residential units.

Texas Gas Service rates; ATMOS Energy Corporation rates

  • Item 133: Conduct a public hearing regarding Texas Gas Service's proposal to increase customer gas rates; Item 134: Conduct a public hearing regarding ATMOS Energy Corporation's proposal to increase customer gas rates

2012 Charter Revision Committee recommendations

Placing charter amendments on the November 2012 ballot regarding the following campaign finance items:

  • Item 78: Requiring special reporting of campaign contributions made in the last nine days before an election.
  • Item 79: Enhancing reporting of independent expenditures in city elections.

Imagine Austin

  • Item 135: Conduct a public hearing on the city's proposed 30-year comprehensive plan.

The Austin City Council is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. at Austin City Hall, 301 W.
