New Braunfels is one step closer to beginning revitalization efforts along West San Antonio Street.

New Braunfels City Council approved a $150,000 professional services agreement with Broussard Group Inc., doing business as TBG Partners, for the creation of the city’s West End Area Master Plan on Jan. 8.

The background

The small area plan is a part of New Braunfels’ 2018 Comprehensive Plan, Envision New Braunfels, and makes up 1.25 miles of the city. The West End Area Master Plan aims to revitalize and redevelop the San Antonio Street and Spur Street corridor, located near the FM 1044 exit off I-35.

“Small area plans are focused planning efforts that really take a more granular level of study and provide specific actions or investments that we should either study for feasibility or actually implement,” said Jeff Jewell, director of economic and community development.

The city executed a request for qualifications and selected TBG Partners because of their knowledge of the region and familiarity with the city, Jewell said.

Looking ahead

Jewell anticipates planning efforts will take roughly nine months, but it is the first step in the revitalization process.
