The Comal County Sheriff’s Office and Comal County Constable’s Office Precinct 1 have formed a partnership to provide a Child Safe Exchange Zone to provide area families with a safe place to follow through with custody pickup and drop-off.

The zone is a designated parking area at the Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Office, located at 145 David Jonas Drive, New Braunfels.

“The project will help in the prevention of family violence. Issues between custodial parents during custody exchanges is a known problem,” said Charles Motz, Comal County Precinct 1 Constable, in a press release. “Additionally, this will free up law enforcement from being dispatched to provide a civil standby and take reports for parents who do not show up during these exchanges.”

The parking spaces have both continuous audio and video surveillance recording. Funding for the project was obtained through the Family Violence Prevention Grant, according to the county.
