A single-family home situated along Main Street in Liberty Hill is officially able to operate commercially after council’s decision to rezone the property.

Located at 2001 Main St., the home has been operating as commercial use, City Planner McKenzi Hicks said at the Sept. 27 City Council meeting. However, the home is zoned for residential use.

Hicks said the owner requested signage for the property, but it needed to be properly zoned for the signage to be permitted.

“It’s a cleanup; it’s really just about bringing this [property] into compliance,” she said.

The following are the amendments council approved:
  • Changing the comprehensive plan future land use designation on the property from residential to commercial
  • Rezoning the property from medium-density residential zoning district to downtown commercial and retail zoning district
The property was changed to downtown commercial zoning because it’s located along Main Street, Hicks said, and the city wants to encourage commercial development along that corridor.
