Bill Burden Elementary Principal Christina Gamez will lead Lariat Trails Elementary, opening in August.

Liberty Hill ISD announced the selection of Gamez as the principal for its eighth elementary school on Jan. 6. The new campus is slated to open in the Lariat Trails neighborhood off County Road 214.

What you need to know

Gamez began her career in education as a physical education teacher at Bill Burden Elementary in 2012 after graduating from Texas A&M University.

In 2017, Gamez helped open Rancho Sienna Elementary, where she taught, supervised paraprofessionals and led the campus specials team. As an assistant principal intern, she assisted with the opening of Santa Rita Elementary in 2020.

Gamez was appointed as the assistant principal of Bill Burden after receiving her master’s degree in Educational Administration in 2021. In 2024, Gamez became principal of the campus.

She will continue serving as the principal of Bill Burden until the position is filled, according to district information.

“Opening a new school is a unique opportunity to build a culture rooted in connection, collaboration and high expectations from day one,” Gamez said in a news release. “I’m honored to be entrusted with this role and excited to work alongside our community to create a welcoming campus where students feel known, supported and inspired to learn.”

A Central Texas native from Cedar Park, Gamez is a proud member of the LHISD community alongside her husband Nick and their two sons Samuel, a third-grader, and kindergartener Levi.

What they’re saying

“Christina brings a deep understanding of Liberty Hill ISD, a proven track record of instructional leadership, and a genuine passion for serving students and families,” said Travis Motal, LHISD interim superintendent who was recently named superintendent lone finalist, in a news release. “Her experience opening schools and as a current elementary principal makes her the ideal choice to open a new campus and serve as the founding principal of Lariat Trails Elementary.”

What’s next

LHISD is planning to rezone students this fall to make way for the opening of Lariat Trails Elementary alongside Legacy Ranch Middle School and Legacy Ranch High School.

Community members can learn more about the rezoning process and provide feedback at an upcoming town hall meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at Liberty Hill Middle School and Jan. 15 at Legacy Ranch High School.

The board of trustees is expected to vote on approving new attendance zones at its February meeting, according to LHISD documents.
