Louis Mastrangelo, the runner-up for Lakeway City Council in May, filed his candidacy Monday for the council race in the upcoming November general election.

As a result of former Council Member Jean Hennigan's recent resignation, two seats will be open in the November election. Mastrangelo said he was the only registered candidate for the two open seats on the council as of Monday.

Mastrangelo lost to Council Member Keith Trecker by a close margin of 0.74 percent of the vote during the May election. He said in a statement he has seen positive changes in Lakeway since the last election, but challenges remain ahead.

"I want to help steer these much-needed initiatives for the benefit of citizens and our city, but we still have big challenges ahead with development, public engagement, wildlife management, traffic, the way we work with businesses, and others," Mastrangelo said in the statement.

"I want to represent all citizens, including those who may feel their concerns have not necessarily been addressed or represented in the past. I have been listening and acting on behalf of citizens, and now I’d like to do it officially on the Lakeway City Council," he said.
