The Lakeway Zoning and Planning Commission made several recommendations to Lakeway City Council on April 5 that may change the landscape of western Travis County.

Commissioners approved for recommendation to City Council a revised Lakeway Medical Village preliminary plan. The recommendation for the project, at 3106 S. RR 620, involves combining two 5,000-square-foot restaurant pad sites into one larger site to house a proposed 27,000-square-foot, three-story medical office building. The project’s developer said the structure will contain multiple tenants and is 50 percent leased as of April 5.

“Hopefully, this [amendment] will encourage more doctors to come out here as that is a need we have,” Chair Dave Taylor said.

A variance request for a site featuring four two-story professional office buildings comprising the Whippoorwill Office Park, which would be located along the east side of Whippoorwill Street between Nightingale and Pheasant lanes, was also approved for recommendation. The granted variance included changes to the driveways of the site. The developer will pave Pheasant Lane from the Lake Travis Fire Rescue station through the stretch of roadway fronting the tract.

“Whatever is being done here is going to be an improvement,” Commissioner Don Kotrady said.

A special-use permit for a proposed warehouse at 15507 Stroup Circle, Lakeway, in the Cardinal Hills area, also got initial approval. The Stroup Circle Warehouse may house a small business that provides lumber and other materials to homebuilders. The 1-acre tract is zoned for commercial or light industrial use.
