After discussions with Williamson County and the National Weather Services, Georgetown ISD has canceled classes for Feb 2, according to a press release.
While road conditions are expected to improve around noon Feb 2, district officials didn't feel staff and student travel would be safe, even with a delayed start.
Some extracurricular activities might be able to continue regular operations in the afternoon, if the circumstances permit, according to the release. Further updates will come to parents from the district.
While Georgetown ISD has instructional time banked for closing on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, the Feb. 2 closing will require state waivers to keep the district from having to make up the time at the end of the year.
“Waivers from the state might be granted because this storm affected a large portion of the state and because our county has declared a disaster,” the release stated. “If we have to make up the time for Thursday's cancellation, we'll learn more in the coming days and will let you know as soon as we do.”
The district is expected to return to normal business hours on Feb 3. There will be a follow-up message sent out about any potential updates.
