For the second weekend in a row, the Texas Department of Transportation will close the main lanes of I-35 below the Williams Drive crossing as well as the Williams Drive bridge overnight March 31 and April 1.

The closures—this time to allow for the demolition of the U-turn bridge, according to the city of Georgetown—stem from TxDOT’s project to construct a diverging diamond interchange, or DDI.

The closures will take place Friday night from 9 p.m.-9 a.m. and Saturday night from 9 p.m.-10 a.m., according to TxDOT officials.

As during previous closures, the main lanes of I-35 will be closed from Lakeway Drive to Hwy. 29. Northbound through traffic will be detoured onto the frontage road using the Williams Drive exit and will re-enter the highway north of Northwest Boulevard. Similarly, southbound traffic will detour at Williams Drive and re-enter using the Hwy. 29 ramp.

Traffic going east on Williams Drive will be detoured to the southbound I-35 frontage road where they will make a U-turn at Hwy. 29. Similarly, westbound traffic on Williams Drive will use the northbound I-35 frontage road and make a left turn at Lakeway Drive.

This is the fourth time TxDOT has enacted I-35 and Williams Drive closures as construction on the DDI continues. It is expected to open in late 2023.
