The Texas Department of Transportation will close all main lanes of I-35 through a portion of Georgetown overnight March 24 and March 25 to pour the bridge deck for the new Williams Drive bridge.

The Williams Drive bridge will also be impassable during the closures, which will run from 9 p.m.-10 a.m. both Friday and Saturday night, according to a TxDOT press release.

This construction is part of the ongoing process to bring a diverging diamond intersection, or DDI, to the Williams Drive bridge over I-35. The new DDI is expected to open in late 2023.

The main lanes of I-35 will be closed from Lakeway Drive to Hwy. 29. Northbound through traffic will be detoured onto the frontage road using the Williams Drive exit and will re-enter the highway north of Northwest Boulevard. Similarly, southbound traffic will detour at Williams Drive and re-enter using the Hwy. 29 ramp.

Traffic going east on Williams Drive will be detoured to the southbound I-35 frontage road where they will make a U-turn at Hwy. 29. Similarly, westbound traffic on Williams Drive will use the northbound I-35 frontage road and make a left turn at Lakeway Drive.

This is the third time TxDOT has closed this portion of I-35 and the Williams Drive bridge in 2023. The first round of closures came in January, when crews demolished and removed a portion of the bridge. Earlier in March, the roads were closed to set beams for the reconstructed bridge.
