In a nutshell
On Oct. 22, City Council members discussed adjusting parking near the Georgetown square. The update would affect parking on sections of Sixth Street, South Main Street and Church Street by adding hourly parking limitations and no-parking zones, according to city documents.
“As downtown continues to grow, the demand for more parking options has increased,” Downtown & Tourism Director Kim McAuliffe said during the presentation.
What to expect
City Council members unanimously approved the ordinance’s first reading, but officials must vote on the agenda item a second time. If given final approval, the updated parking provisions would go into effect Dec. 1, according to city documents.
Current 15-minute parking spots will not be affected by the current proposal, McAuliffe said.
