Georgetown ISD will receive $240,000 to put toward the purchase of two propane-powered school buses, replacing two 2006 model diesel buses.

In a nutshell

Trustees approved on Dec. 16 the district's participation in a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality grant program providing $120,000 toward the purchase of a school bus that runs on propane, as opposed to diesel fuel.

The details

The district will receive $240,000 to purchase two buses, which are priced at $164,197 each. The remaining $88,394 will be paid by GISD, per district documents. This represents a savings of about 73% to the district in replacing these buses.


About the program

The TCEQ offers several types of grant funding to offer schools the ability to choose buses that do not rely on diesel fuel, with the goal of reducing exposure of children to the fuel's exhaust.
