Georgetown ISD set the maximum price it will pay for one of the first projects funded by the 2024 bond passed by voters in early May.

What happened

Trustees voted May 20 to set the maximum price the district will pay for the renovation of the old Benold Middle School campus at $32 million, to be funded by the 2024 bond.

Once renovations are completed, the campus will be turned into the new Frost Elementary School.

The details

Interior and exterior renovations at the former Benold Middle School campus will increase its capacity to 850 students, bond informational materials from the district show.

The project falls under Proposition A, which allocates $597.47 million of the total $649 million bond package to campus-level improvements and the construction of new schools as well as installation of safety features.

How we got here

The district broke ground on the new Benold Middle School campus in April 2023.

The $72.6 million campus is expected to open in time for the 2024-25 school year, clearing the way for the old campus to begin renovations.

What's next?

Construction on the project is expected to begin in June, and it is slated to reach substantial completion in June 2025.
