While Georgetown ISD students saw general improvements in math and science in the spring administration of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, results released Aug. 16 show the district did not perform at or above the state average in most subjects.

The overview

Results for STAAR tests administered to third- through eighth-grade students this spring show the district performed below state averages in most grade levels and subjects. Eighth grade reading and social studies were the only testing areas where GISD students performed at or above state averages.

Zooming in

Students in the third through eighth grades demonstrated academic growth over last year in most cases. Average passage rates were higher than or the same as they were in 2022 in all subjects except third-, fourth- and fifth-grade reading; fifth-grade science; eighth-grade social studies; and fifth-grade Spanish reading, TEA data shows. In particular, GISD students saw the most improvement year over year in math and science.

Zooming out

The 2023 STAAR was redesigned to align more closely with the way students learn in the classroom. This is the first year that the test was administered fully online.
