The GISD board of trustees held a monthly workshop meeting, during which they were to discuss Brent’s contract. After the workshop, the board approved his retirement, effective June 30. He will be designated superintendent emeritus from May 1-June 30, which will allow trustees to name an interim superintendent. Brent will serve in an advisory role as the leadership team and board search for his replacement.
“I’ve had the honor of serving students, educators and communities in public education for 32 years, and the last nine years as the superintendent of Georgetown have been the highlight of my career,” Brent said in the release. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of this work and to work with amazing people along the way. I am blessed that my family and I will be able to continue to call Georgetown, Texas, home.”
GISD will hire a firm to assist in searching for a new superintendent. In the release, Brent said the district has an “incredible strategic direction, and the right people are in place to bring it to life.”
The board adopted a new strategic direction in March, providing a framework for campuses and departments to prioritize GISD’s objectives. The process, which began in October, involved receiving feedback from more than 1,000 community members, parents, staff and students. The four priority areas identified were: student learning growth and progress; student and staff well-being; staff recruitment and retention; and community and connectivity.
“[Brent] has built a solid foundation and a strong team of leaders to continue the work of achieving our vision and mission, and he set the conditions for success for our next superintendent,” GISD Board President Elizabeth McFarland said in the release.
