After months of discussions about how to regulate the city’s historic properties, City Council approved the second reading of amendments to the unified development code at its May 12 meeting. The amendments included two addendums, including giving review authority for demolitions of less than 15 percent of a structure to the Historic and Architectural Review Commission and exempting construction of a fence, railing or wall consistent with design standards from review. The council voted April 24 to create a City Council subcommittee to further review and discuss the issue. For a list of amendments, visit www.harcamendments.georgetown.org.
