With final votes in, Hays CISD voters now know who will represent them on the district Board of Trustees.
Teresa Tobias has been reelected to represent District 1 with 121 votes, or nearly 60 percent. Tobias is followed by Charles McNiel, Jr. 56 votes, or about 27 percent, and Michele R. Carey with 26 votes, nearly 13 percent.
"I'm excited that the voters have trusted me to be their representative, it's great," Tobias said. "I just got an overwhelming result."
Tobias spent election night with Willie Tenorio, a fellow incumbent who ran unopposed for reelection to his District 2 spot and received 136 votes. They are celebrating their wins with fajitas and cupcakes, she said.
For the trustee at-large position, Vanessa V. Petrea received 775 votes, nearly 42 percent, while Debbie Munoz got 573, about 31 percent, and Doyla A. Burrell received just over 27 percent with 500 votes.
Petrea waited for results surrounded by her friends, family and supporters.
"I am honored, overwhelmed, and excited to get to work," she said.

Both frontrunners in the contested Hays CISD races are cautiously optimistic about the early vote returns.
"I'm not in celebratory mode, but I am excited about the results so far. I'm waiting just like everybody else," incumbent Teresa Tobias said.
Tobias leads the race with 57 percent of the vote, according to early returns.
She said her two opponents have run a clean race and that the election has been "really great."
"I'm really excited about the fact that no matter who wins, we're all interested in supporting the district and its students," Tobias said.
Vanessa Petrea, running for the trustee at-large spot, said her lead is "great news."
After early voting, Petrea leads the race with 40 percent of the vote. Debbie Munoz and Doyla Burrell have 33 and 27 percent respectively.
"It's not over yet, [but] I am excited and definitely optimistic," Petrea said. "I know that all the votes haven't been counted yet, so I'm just waiting to hear the official results."

Two incumbents, along with a new candidate, are leading in early voting for Hays CISD Board of Trustees spots, according to unofficial early voting returns.
District 1
Incumbent Teresa Tobias leads in the District 1 race with 52 votes, or just over 57 percent of the early and absentee vote, with Charles McNiel, Jr. following behind with 28 votes, nearly 31 percent. Michelle R. Carey trails with 11 votes, almost 13 percent.
District 2
Incumbent Willie Tenorio is running unopposed.
Trustee At-large
For Sandra Bryant's vacant trustee position,candidate Vanessa V. Petrea leads with about 357 votes, or about 40 percent of early voting. Debbie Munoz and Doyla A. Burrell follow behind with 288 votes or about 33 percent and 234 votes or 27 percent, respectively.
