Little Barrel and Brown will host its first of many country picnics July 21.

The restaurant at 1716 S. Congress Ave. will pay homage to its country roots each Monday night with a Southern-inspired, all-you-can-eat buffet for $25, cans of Lone Star for $2 and free live music.

"I really believe that the culture of the south, the music and the food, have such a deep history here and I wanted to come up with an idea that would celebrate that," the restaurant's Executive Chef Russell Dougherty said.

Doughtery sees the Monday picnic outings as an opportunity to broaden the palate of Central Texas taste buds.

"I talk to people here about food and [they say], 'It's barbecue, it's Mexican, that's what Texas is.' But it's so much more than that, so I want to change the perception of that. There's a lot more here," Dougherty said.

The picnic dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the bar opening at 5 p.m. Reservations and the regular menu will not be available during the picnics.

Live music will be featured each Monday night to accompany dinner from local artists. Dougherty said artists will most likely have a folk or country vibe that fits the picnic atmosphere.
