Various East Austin businesses have reported an offensive sticker being placed on their storefronts by unknown vandals.

The "exclusively for white people" stickers were found on Rare Trends, El Chilito Tacos y Cafe, Windmill Bicycles, El Chile Cafe y Cantina and Suga Mama's Bake Shop windows, according to theAustin-American Statesman. Many of the businesses stated that they did not place the stickers on their businesses, which were placed on storefronts located in historical minority neighborhoods. The stickers were placed on the businesses sometime between midnight and 7 a.m., according to information released by the city of Austin. The city's official logo was used on the sticker without permission, according to the release. “This is an appalling and offensive display of ignorance in our city," Mayor Steve Adler said in the statement. "Austin condemns this type of hurtful behavior. Our city is a place where respect for all people is a part of our spirit and soul. We will keep it that way." City departments are closely monitoring local businesses for any more evidence of the stickers, according to the release.
