A Tennessee staple is now open in Austin.
Gus's Fried Chicken, 117 San Jacinto Blvd., debuted Jan. 6 in downtown Austin. Based near Memphis, Tenn., the restaurant has been serving "world famous" fried chicken for more than 60 years.
Made using a secret family recipe, fried chicken plates come with white or dark mean including breast, wings, thighs, legs or tenders. Half-chickens and catfish are also served as well as various seasonal specials. Sides include baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, mac and cheese, seasoned fries and more.
General Manager Brian O'Neill helped open the Austin location, the restaurant's first in Texas and fifth nationwide. There are three locations in Tennessee and a fourth in Little Rock, Ark. 512-474-4877. www.gusfriedchicken.com
