In February, Austin City Council members began mulling a mobility bond. On Aug. 11, an election was called for a $720 million bond, about $482 million of which would go toward implementation of the city’s corridor plans for major thoroughfares, such as North Lamar Boulevard, Riverside Drive and Airport Boulevard.
The latest
On Nov. 8, Austin voters approved the city’s $720 million mobility bond proposition. In a Dec. 12 memo addressed to the council, interim City Manager Elaine Hart outlined plans to fast-track implementation of the bond. The council approved $28 million toward design and construction funding for local mobility projects, such as sidewalks and safe routes to school.
What’s next
Once hired, a consulting firm will determine how to split up the remaining corridor studies. A contract for a corridor consultant is expected to be awarded at a Feb. 9 council meeting.
