Deconstruction of the Austin City Council dais began early July 9 to help accommodate the new 10-1 council system in which 10 district representatives and one mayor are voted to council.
Work began at 10 a.m. to take the dais apart in the most careful way possible because it is made from historic treaty oak.
City Council will meet in the same chambers as Travis County Commissioners Court at 700 Lavaca St. until construction of the new dais is complete.
The next regular meeting will take place Aug. 7. Austin City Council will meet at the temporary location through early- to mid-October.
