Williamson County commissioners approved a 30-day burn ban at their Feb. 25 meeting.
County Judge Dan Gattis was given the authority to lift the ban during the 30 days if conditions improve.
Pat Ekiss, president of the Williamson County Fire Chiefs Association, said despite wet conditions the day of the meeting, parts of the county still face wildfire threats.
The north and northwest portions of county are very dry, he said. We have a lot of dead grass and dormant growth thats extremely volatile.
The ban prohibitsburningmaterial outside an enclosure to contain flames and sparks, burning household yard waste and land-clearing burning, according to a news release. Violation of the ban is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500.
