The Capital Metro transit agency implemented its Cap Remap service plan June 3, which realigned bus routes throughout the city with the aim of providing faster and more reliable service.

The overhaul includes extensive changes throughout Central Austin. As part of the remap, Capital Metro is expanding its high-frequency network, a service launched in 2015 offering services every 15 minutes on routes with high ridership.

“The idea is someone can plan their life around that,” said Capital Metro CEO Randy Clarke. “It’s predictable, frequent service.”

Central Austin routes new to the high-frequency network include Route 2 in the Rosedale area, Route 4 along Seventh Street and Route 10 along South First and Red River streets.

The overhaul also adds some new routes in Central Austin, including Route 322 along Chicon St. and Cherrywood Road and Route 337 connecting Koenig Lane to East Austin’s Colony Park.

Clarke said the changes are a response to how development patterns have changed.

More changes are forthcoming over the next several years within the broader Connections 2025, a plan to evolve Austin’s transportation network, according to Capital Metro spokesperson Peter Partheymuller.
