The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, a local nonprofit that provides access to health care to local low-income musicians, raised more than $565,000 at this year's HAAM Day, which was held Sept. 11.
The annual event brings in more than one-third of the organization's operating budget.
"Every day, more and more musicians come to us with new needs—and HAAM provides health care and a supporting hand to as many as we possibly can," said Reenie Collins, executive director of HAAM, in an Oct. 8 news release.
Since 2015, the organization's membership has increased by 40 percent as local musicians grapple with rising costs of living and
local venues struggle to stay open.
More than 200 local businesses participated in this year's HAAM Day, donating a portion of their profits or making a donation to the organization.
Last year, the event raised $520,000.
