The city of Austin's Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a public kick-off event for its Brush Square Master Plan Sunday, April 7. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the square, which is located at 409 E. Fifth St., Austin.

Brush Square is one of three remaining historical public squares from the city's 1839 Waller Plan. It is home to the Brush Square Museums and Austin Fire Station No. 1, which serves downtown.

The planning process will develop a vision for the square's future, including how to enhance its green space and the best financing strategies. It is expected to take 12 months.

Austin residents of all ages are invited to attend the event. Activities will include children's games, historical programs and hands-on input sessions. Light refreshments will be provided.
