The longstanding South Austin bakery La Mexicana will close Feb. 16. It first opened on Mother’s Day in 1989.

Owner Jesús Martinez Becerra decided to close the shop so he could retire, according to a restaurant spokesperson.

La Mexicana offers a wide array of Mexican baked goods, including cakes, breads and cookies. It also has a restaurant that serves tacos, tortas and other dishes.

The bakery is located at 1924 S 1st St., Austin. www.lamexicanabakeryaustin.com
