Austin's newest music nonprofit ATX Chamber Music and Jazz, or ATX Music, will bring world-class musicians together for intimate performances in its premiere 2023-24 season.

The series will kick off Oct. 6 with a performance by Grammy Award-winning pop and classical trio Time For Three at the historic Paramount Theatre.

In addition to more traditional concertgoing experiences, ATX Music is offering smaller social events to the public, including a Burgundy wine tasting at The Mansion with French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and a night of Japanese whiskey pours at the Parker Jazz Club with jazz pianist Hiromi.

The backstory

ATX Music was created after professional violinist and music organizer Geoffrey Herd attended an Austin house concert with his friend in 2022.



"We had this really intimate experience and close contact with some exceptional musicians. It felt really special, and there had been a lot of talk about the future of classical music," Herd said. "We got to thinking maybe what's missing at traditional chamber concerts is this feeling of social connectivity."

Since then, Herd and co-Artistic Director Anna Petrova have curated a line up of musicians to participate in their own chamber music society, Ensemble ATX, which is featured in the season's lineup.

"We want to have musicians coming back to town to perform and form personal connections with our Austin audiences so that we don't just bring the massive superstars to town, but then they don't come back for a few years," Petrova said.

Both Petrova and Herd share a background in music education as professors. ATX Music plans to host performances by Time For Three and the Dover Quartet at local Austin schools to provide children free opportunities to learn about classical music.
