Austin Community College's bond passed on the Nov. 8 election.

As of 11:57 p.m., roughly 70% of voters approved the package.

“ACC should be very proud of this election and what the community is saying to us. That they trust us, that we can deliver and that we will deliver on our promise for this $770 million bond initiative," said Nan McRaven, Austin Community College District board of trustees chair, in a press release.

The bond money will be used to expand ACC’s workforce training in high-demand fields, such as health care, advanced manufacturing and information technology across 11 existing campuses. Two of the largest projects in the bond include reopening and expanding the Pinnacle campus in South Austin, and creating a new training center in Southeast Austin.

ACC board candidates

Steve Jackobs declared victory for the ACC board of trustees Place 6 with 57.42% of the vote as of 11:58 p.m.

“I’m very, very excited. I have a long history with ACC, supporting about 1,000 students a year through the Capital Idea [nonprofit] and this is going to give me an opportunity to bring that support to tens of thousands of students a year," Jackobs said.

ACC has three seats on the board of trustees up for election in November. Place 4 incumbent Sean Hassan is running unopposed as is Place 5 Trustee Manny Gonzalez.

Jackobs said the passage of the bond will allow the community college to double the nursing program, which is a passion of his.

"In this community, you need more than a high school degree to survive and ACC is going to give students that," Jackobs said.
