A new Mediterranean restaurant brought forth by a couple from Greece will open its doors to the public June 23. Yamas is located at 5308 Balcones Drive, Austin, in the Highland Park West neighborhood.

On the menu

Yamas’ menu features traditional Mediterranean dishes made from ingredients sourced locally and some imported from Greece. The menu’s highlights include fried feta with roasted walnuts, honey and sesame; a marinated and grilled lamb chop served with fries; and Seafood Youvetsi, a dish with shrimp, lobster, mussels and calamari served with orzo.

Meet the owners

Yamas is owned by husband and wife Roxie and Hristos Nikolakos, who relocated their family from their hometown of Rhodes, Greece, to Austin in 2000. The kitchen is led by Chef Dimitrios Kelesoglou, a third-generation chef from Macedonia, Greece, who’s trained in traditional Greek cooking.

Yamas will be open Tuesday-Sunday from 4-11 p.m.; however, there are plans to introduce a weekend brunch service and a lunch service from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the future.
