By 11 a.m. on June 10, Austinites were lined up for more than two blocks, despite the temperature reaching nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit, to get a final slice of cake from Paper Route Bakery.

“Paper Route is financially successful, and I have a vivid image of the bakery it could become,” owner and Austin native Aaron Seriff-Cullick said in an Instagram post. “But, I also get the feeling that life has more to teach me, outside the scope of what I can learn scaling this particular mountain.”

Paper Route served organic, made-from-scratch cakes for weddings, graduations, birthday parties or “just because.”

The shop had been located at 1010 E. Cesar Chavez St., Ste. D, Austin, since 2018.

“I am not sure what the future holds, but as I step away from the bakery and out into the big wide world, I can only hope to be met at the next juncture with the warmth and acceptance that y’all have shown me these past eight years,” Seriff-Cullick said at the end of his post. “Thank you, Austin.”
