After closing due to a fire in January, Texas French Bread has reopened in a ‘70s Airstream trailer in the garden next to its old building on Rio Grande Street. The bakery had been open since 1981.

After months of uncertainty, Texas French Bread owners Murph Wilcott and Carissa Ries were inspired to reopen the bakery after having lunch with Franklin Barbecue owners Aaron and Stacy Franklin, Wilcott wrote in a newsletter. The Franklins lent them their 1971 Airstream trailer they had in their warehouse, which kickstarted their plan to reopen in their former garden space, Wilcott said.

“Despite this wet, chilly weather, we are overjoyed to be back,” Wilcott said.

Texas French Bread is offering an array of sweets, pastries, breads, soups, sandwiches, and breakfast and lunch options. They are also accepting preorders for breads, cookies and pastries for the holidays online. Texas French Bread is located at 2900 Rio Grande St., Austin. www.texasfrenchbread.com
