Austin City Council voted to approve multiple new developments at the March 3 meeting.

One new development is located on the west side of South Congress Avenue. The area is undeveloped and 0.87 acres. This property will be mixed use, including 95 apartment units and 1,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor, according to city documents. Around this new development is commercial/retail use, a nursery/day care center, an elementary school, a shopping center and single-family homes.

This rezoning project was approved and finalized by the council.

The council also approved and finalized the redevelopment of a property located at 3535 E. Seventh St. One portion of the property is developed and being used as restaurant, office, warehouse and vehicle service space, while the other portion is undeveloped, according to city documents. The rezoning of this area would include the development of 150 apartment units and up to 10,000 square feet of retail use.


A property located on the north side of E. Fourth Street between Navasota Street and Onion Street was approved for redevelopment on first reading only by the council. This property is developed as office and warehouse use. The rezoning proposal is to increase the building’s height from 45 feet to 80 feet.

This redevelopment will be placed back on the meeting agenda at a later date for second reading.
