Two Austin-based companies have come together on a project that will bring 226 multifamily units to a site on West Fifth Street.

The six-story project at 1301 West Fifth St., Austin broke ground Monday and will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom units, with 10 percent available at below market rental rates to qualified households, according to a news release.

Scheduled to open in late 2018, the project will include nearly 2,200 square feet of ground floor retail.

Local company Oden Hughes Construction is serving as the general contractor, Austin-based Kelly Grossman Architects designed the project and CWS Capital Partners is collaborating with Oden Hughes to co-develop the project.

Kelly Grossman Architects is known for other Austin-area projects such as the Hill Country Galleria and The Crescent apartments.

“This area along the West Fifth Street corridor is where Old West Austin meets an increasingly contemporary downtown,” said Jarrett Sullivan, vice president of development for CWS Capital Partners, in the release. “We designed the project to reflect that by combining traditional building materials in a more modern design.”

Amenities include a fifth-floor lounge and deck, a resort-style pool and sundeck, a game room, a dog park and a bicycle workshop.
