Capital Metro announced July 1 in a media release that an employee who worked as a MetroAccess operator died June 30.

The employee tested positive for the COVID-19 on June 18, two days after his last day on the job. For more than five years, he worked for Medical Transportation Management, which operates the public transportation agency’s MetroAccess service, which provides rides for people with disabilities.

Travis County continues to report a surge of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. Austin Public Health reported 558 new cases June 30. The moving daily average of hospitalizations is 55, and the doubling time of the virus—or how long it takes for the number of infections to double—has dropped to 13.8 days.

In Travis County as of June 30, there have been 124 deaths due to the virus. Of the 9,527 reported cases, 6,560 patients have recovered.
