The city of Austin suspended collection of trash, recycling and compost after a winter storm and subfreezing temperatures left road conditions unsafe for crews through the week of Feb. 15. Those services resumed Feb. 22, according to Austin Resource Recovery.
Customers are asked to set out carts by 6:30 a.m. on their scheduled days. Large brush and bulk item collections that missed their scheduled days due to the storm will be resumed.
Because of the delays, workers are collecting extra bags of trash, recycling and composting at no additional charge. For recycling, customers are asked to place extra items in a cardboard box or other reusable container on top of their blue cart once the cart is full. Extra trash can be bagged and placed beside the full brown cart, and composting can be put beside the green cart in lawn and leaf bags or a reusable container no larger than 34 gallons and no heavier than 50 pounds.
Austin Resource Recovery said service may take longer than usual because of the excess material workers will be collecting.
