Here's what you need to know in Central Austin to start your week:

1. Campus carry for community colleges starts tomorrow

Senate Bill 11—better known as campus carry—goes into effect for Texas community colleges on Tuesday. Austin Community College has been busy placing 318 signs labeling exclusions zones, or areas where concealed handguns are banned, around its 12 campuses.

2. City of Austin releases new pedestrian safety action plan

Residents have until Aug. 31 to review the city of Austin's new plan to end traffic fatalities. The Vision Zero plan, which City Council approved in May 2016, called for developing mode-specific plans, including for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists.

3. #ManorMondays campaign launches this week

The Manor Road Merchants Association launched its new district campaign#ManorMondays today. Businesses on Manor Road offer discounts and family-friendly activities all day, including face painting, dance classes, fitness classes, a historic walk around the district, pop-up vendors and artisans.

4. SXSW extends deadline for community service awards nominations

The application deadline has been extended to Friday for the South by Southwest Conference & Festivals community service awards, in which five individuals and five organizations are recognized for their community service. Each honoree or organization will receive complimentary badges to SXSW and a $5,000 grant. Applications can be found here.

5. As home prices increase, millennials struggle to afford Central Austin

Community Impact Newspaper's front page story for July looked at how inhibiting factors such as student debt and lack of savings, coupled with the rising cost of homes in Central Austin, are stopping millennials from buying in the city.
