1. ACC to vote on changes to out-of-district fee policy

The Austin Community College board of trustees is considering changing its out-of-district fee policy to stay competitive. The change could result in a revenue reduction of about $4 million based on current enrollments. The vote will take place at the meeting tonight, which begins at 5 p.m. in the ACC Highland Business Center, 5930 Middle Fiskville Road, Austin.

2. Austin mulls merger of fire, EMS departments

The city of Austin is considering the feasibility of merging its fire and emergency medical services departments. According to a budget discussion held at last week’s City Council meeting, Austin is one of the only cities in Texas that operates under a third-service model. During Wednesday’s work session, the Austin City Council discussed other EMS models that could trim its $84.2 million cost.

3. Music curfew pilot program starts on Red River Street

A six-month pilot program that extends the outdoor live music curfew in the Red River Cultural District starts today. After the six-month trial ends, Austin City Council will review feedback and decide whether to extend the program another six months.

4. Feedback sought for art at East Austin bus stop

Capital Metro is seeking feedback on a proposed art installation celebrating the African-American community of East Austin. The art will be installed at the bus stop located on the southeast corner of 12th and Chicon streets. A community meeting will be held Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Huston-Tillotson University in the Dickey-Lawless Auditorium, located at 900 Chicon St., Austin.

5. Small Business Festival happening this week

Austin’s Small Business Festival takes place Monday through Friday at various locations around the city. Speakers will lead workshops on a variety of topics, including starting or growing a small business, financing, social media and leadership strategies.
